Tower Of Danys

Historic building since December 22, 1941. It bears the name of one of the founders families of Cannet. It was built by the monks of LĂ©rins to close the city on the old road of Cannes, it dates from the middle of XVe century. Prosper Mérimée is at the origin of his name "the Tower of the brigands".

Preserved in a state more than satisfactory, the Tower of Danys was used as door between the commune of Cannet and the town of Cannes. High of more than 9 meters and square form, it imposes an unquestionable respect. Surmounted machicolation and having only few openings, the tower releases an architectural force. Registered with the Additional Inventory of the Historic buildings since 1941, the Tower of Danys recalls the history of the commune of Cannet, hamlet become independent. According to an anecdote allotted to Prosper Mérimée, the tower sometimes is still called Tour of the Brigands.
